OrcaFlex accepts the line position as a static equilibrium position if the largest out-of-balance force component on any node is less than tolerance $\times$ total weight in air. This controls the accuracy of the solution.
For some difficult cases, simply increasing this limit may be enough to obtain a solution.
The calculation is abandoned if convergence has not been achieved after this number of steps. However, some lines, typically those involving significant amounts of twist or pre-bend, may converge more robustly if the intermediate non-torsion solve is not performed. The static analysis is usually quicker and more robust if the intermediate non-torsion solve is performed.

To view more static analysis results repeat this process: click on the results button and select as before. The static position is obtained by an iterative process, in which OrcaFlex tries to converge on the solution in a series of steps. Results for different objects are presented in different sheets.
A summary of the static analysis results is then displayed in spreadsheet form. Ignore the graph options for the moment, select results tables and all objects, then click table. Results for all objects or one selected object. Results in numerical and graphical form, with various further choices which determine what the table or graph will contain. We can now examine the results of the static analysis by clicking on the results button to open the select results form. When editing the model, OrcaFlex uses a quick approximation to a catenary shape for general guidance only, and this shape is replaced with the true catenary shape when static analysis has been carried out. The appearance of the line will have changed a little. When the analysis is finished (almost instantly for this simple system) the program state message in the centre of the status bar changes to read "statics complete", and the static analysis button changes to light grey to indicate that this command is no longer available. The message box reports which line is being analysed and how many iterations have occurred. To run a static analysis of the system, click on the calculate statics button. If you are running the demonstration version of OrcaFlex then this facility is not available.
